Iceland is heating up

Or at least the price war on flights to Iceland is heating up.

With Air Canada now offering flights from Toronto & Montreal, to Reykjavik and competing with Iceland Air on these routes, prices are dropping.

The same can be said for competition on the America east coast routes where Delta/Air France and KLM have dropped their prices to meet or beat those of WOW Air and Iceland Air.

Today, Delta/Air France/KLM are offering round trip, tax included flights from JFK Airport in New York, as well as Boston Logan Airport for as low as $316.(Or $421 Canadian funds if purchased through Expedia.ca) These bargain prices can be found on certain dates, from the end of August through to October 2017

Sample shown August 22-29th from Expedia.com

Even though Westjet does not have flights to Iceland, you can nab a bargain and still fly part of the way with them. Use the website for Iceland Air and leave from Winnipeg, and you will see your connecting flight Winnipeg to Toronto with Westjet.  Prices as low as $636 from Winnipeg.

icelandair.ca Sample bargain dates September 25th to October 3rd, 2017

Copenhagen on a Dreamliner

BARGAIN ALERT!

If just reading “Copenhagen” and “Dreamliner” isn’t enough to make your eyes bubble with joy and anticipation, maybe you don’t deserve this bargain!  Just kidding. Read on.

I can’t explain it, other than to say, these prices have been hanging around a couple weeks already. There’s so much turbulence in the US market right now that it’s left some routes open for fierce competition, in my opinion. And now that there are low-cost carriers (like WOW and Norwegian) flying in/out of some select US coastal cities (Seattle, Los Angeles, Miami, Boston, New York) there are price wars.

But the prices are crazy. Cray-cray. $316 Canadian dollars to fly tax in, and return (in economy class) on a Dreamliner. I repeat…. 787 Dreamliner.

Sure, this particular bargain is out of Boston, Mass but surely you can get there. Enjoy a few days on the harbor eating lobster rolls and watching the Bruins or Red Sox. Surely, you can see how to make this a winning combination.

Skyscanner.ca is the quickest way to track down these bargains and see what’s out there. And right now, there are so many it’s a little overwhelming for this rabid traveller. I want to see Europe. This is THE year. But where to start?

From Montreal to Stockholm Sweden, with WOW Air

YBR to the World

Now available thru Expedia.ca, bookings are available to Europe and beyond using Westjet’s codeshare partners. And booking a flight to Paris, from YBR (Brandon municipal airport) is surprisingly convenient. The flight itself is now almost as convenient. You can be in Italy or Finland 15 hours after leaving home!

Here are just a few examples.

Paris, oh heavens, Paris!

If you’ve ever thought about a trip to Paris, it’s your time. If you’ve dreamt about Paris in the spring, it’s your time. If you have visions of proposing under the Eiffel Tower, it’s your time.

Fly from Grand Forks or Minot, North Dakota

Paired with a hotel for 6 nights, through Expedia.ca for about $900 CANADIAN funds. 4 star hotel, of course!

There are literally 1000’s of date combinations in this. From December, thru May 2017.

————————————> And it’s gone.

In less than an hour, the unbelievable prices are gone. I had just finished researching and had started writing. In fact, I was almost ready to publish this deal. Then, it disappeared. Flights from GFK & MOT back up to $1300US funds.

Sigh. I really had my hopes up of a d0-over trip of my failed November 15, 2015 trip. (You know, the one I cancelled, the day after the Paris attacks.)

Anyways, the lesson in this, is simply, sometimes amazing deals are fleeting. I can only surmise, not meant to be, in this case. Again.

Damn.

Sorry. I really am.

Edmonton: Bargain Alert!

HOT DEAL!

4 Westjet Flights from Winnipeg

3 nights in a Westin hotel in Edmonton

Taxes included $1200.37

Screen Shot 2016-07-18 at 8.23.11 PM

Why so cheap you ask? It goes like this….

New Leaf Airlines announced a Winnipeg to Edmonton route. (That’s YWG to YEG in airline speak.) Rock bottom prices of $200 round trip taxes included. So, then, Westjet quietly beats the prices on the exact route. $198. That’s pretty fabulous, right?  The route flies Thursday to Sunday. That’s even more amazing. So, you can actually make a long weekend of it.

But here’s how you take the bargain to the next level, go to a package re-seller like Expedia.ca. Their automated system updates flight prices and calculates and discounts packages. All you have to do is get the right dates. So, I typed in any Thursday to Sunday in September, and voila! $300 per person, for a family of 4. Price includes Westjet nonstop flights, and 3 nights at a really fabulous hotel. #WIN

Why haven’t I tagged any of the airlines in this post? Prices disappear very quickly and when this word gets out, the deals will be snapped up.

If your kids would like to stay at West Edmonton Mall before school’s out,  the August 25-28th price is $359 per person at the Fantasyland hotel.

Other hotels available, from $250 per person (near the airport), up to $424 for the Fairmont.

Shown Sept 8-11. Prices will vary according to dates

One last tip. If you’re an Air Miles collector, log in through Airmilesshops.ca and you can collect Air Miles on your Expedia purchase.

You’re welcome! And yes, please share with your friends and family if you think they could use a little trip and a heck of a bargain!
