Packing help is just a tweet away

Are your scissors too big? Nail clippers allowed? What about knitting needles? What CAN you take in your carry on bag on the airplane?

Well, your answer is only a tweet away. The agency responsible for air transport safety in Canada (CATSA) will reply to your tweet with a yes or no. It’s that easy.

Tweet them your photo or your question at @catsa_gc

Also available in French @actsa_gc

For additional, and more detailed regulations and a full list of carry on restrictions, to to their website.

There’s also an APP for your phone! Link to it from their main website.

With all this technology at your fingertips, there’s no excuse to pack the 4 inch scissors and the oranges!

My Ski Correspondent

When you see a fabulous deal, you have to jump on it, if you possibly can. The under $200 flights to Kelowna were too good to pass up. And while I absolutely couldn’t get the time off work at spring break, my son could. (He has a fabulous boss!)

So, he went snowboarding in the mountains of British Columbia.

In an effort to include me (and the readers of SheTalksTravel.com), he’s shared some fun helmet-cam GoPro video that he shot.

He followed his friend down the mountain at Silver Star Ski Resort in Vernon. Not bad for a couple of novice snowboarders, and a helmet cam.

Thanks boys!

This clip is a little longer and shows more of the scenery at Silver Star Mountain Resort. It was taken by my older son, on a snowboard, as my youngest skis and blazes the trail.

Absolutely a fabulous hill. Great for the novice skier and beyond. Really great conditions for end of March. Top marks to Silver Star Mountain Resort, from my correspondent!

Ps. I will follow up soon with recommendations for hotels in the area and a few more of the fun photos he took.

Blue Jays in Boston under $800

What if I told you that you could catch a flight, from Winnipeg, to Boston and see a couple Blue Jays games when they are hosted by the Red Sox at Fenway Park?

What if I told you that if you stayed a short commute from downtown, in a really well rated hotel, that you could have 3 nights and flights for under $800?

Would you be interested?

Prices from Expedia.ca on March 16th.

There is a little price war going on among the airlines right now on this route. You can fly from Winnipeg to Boston (YWG to BOS) as low as $326 taxes in and return. However, the flights that I like best seem to sit around $375 (which is still amazing! You can’t get to Vancouver for that!) Prices are lowest between April and late June.

Baseball teams often have a “home stand” which means that they are playing several games at home. If you choose the right dates, you could see the Red Sox play two or three different opponents.

Tickets are in addition to the above noted prices and can vary widely depending on where you like to sit in the park and where you purchase your tickets.

And, by the way, All Star tickets go on sale today. The big game is being played in San Diego this year at Petco Park, second week in July.

I spy a bargain to Jamaica!

Under $4000 for a family of 4, will get you a week in a five star Riu Resort in Jamaica! Simply a fabulous deal!

Honestly, I’m happy if I can get Jamaica under $1600 per person. So, for under $1000 per person, I’m hitting the exclamation mark a whole bunch of times!!!!

You know how I always tell you to look at the various dates, because choosing the right one can save you hundreds? Yeah.

I was in Jamaica less than a year ago. We stayed in the Montego Bay area. We drove past the Riu to get to our 4 star resort. It sure looked nice. But, I don’t really know. (As always, I urge you to go to Trip Advisor and check out the recent reviews whether you are staying in Regina, Anchorage, Negril or anywhere.)

For this bargain, found through Selloffvacations.com, you have a choice of 3 Riu locations. Montego Bay is the closest to the airport, but Ocho Rios and Negril have more exquisite beaches.

Riu on sale through Selloffvacations.com and Sunwing.

Here’s the screenshot of the total package price, as of March 15th 10pm. I’m not sure how long this price will last. It might be just until it sells out, or it could be one of their 48 hour deals. In any case, it’s a last minute deal, once you book it… grab those passports and start packing!
