Deals for couples

Air Canada got my attention yesterday with some great deals on caribbean vacations.

I looked further and found that that the fine print excludes children in the discounts. Therefore these excellent deals are for couples, or friends, but not necessarily families or single parents.

The fine print of the deal

If you search the site, you’ll see numerous packages available from Toronto. If you find something you like, then go to the main search page of Air Canada Vacations and search the same dates with your origin airport of YWG (Winnipeg). You will likely see the same deal, mere dollars more with a Winnipeg – Toronto connecting flight.

Travel dates for this sale are May thru October, but must be purchased by March 27th. You may also get a further discount by redeeming some of your aeroplan points. (26,500 points equals a $250 discount.)

The best deal…. the one that really got my attention was Aruba. As low as $864 per adult. (Flights, hotel, transfers, taxes, breakfast). I would absolutely love to go to Aruba. And the following 3 hotels are either on or near Eagle Beach.

Eagle Beach in Aruba consistently makes the “best beaches” lists. It is known for its soft white sand.

I spy a bargain to Jamaica!

Under $4000 for a family of 4, will get you a week in a five star Riu Resort in Jamaica! Simply a fabulous deal!

Honestly, I’m happy if I can get Jamaica under $1600 per person. So, for under $1000 per person, I’m hitting the exclamation mark a whole bunch of times!!!!

You know how I always tell you to look at the various dates, because choosing the right one can save you hundreds? Yeah.

I was in Jamaica less than a year ago. We stayed in the Montego Bay area. We drove past the Riu to get to our 4 star resort. It sure looked nice. But, I don’t really know. (As always, I urge you to go to Trip Advisor and check out the recent reviews whether you are staying in Regina, Anchorage, Negril or anywhere.)

For this bargain, found through Selloffvacations.com, you have a choice of 3 Riu locations. Montego Bay is the closest to the airport, but Ocho Rios and Negril have more exquisite beaches.

Here’s the screenshot of the total package price, as of March 15th 10pm. I’m not sure how long this price will last. It might be just until it sells out, or it could be one of their 48 hour deals. In any case, it’s a last minute deal, once you book it… grab those passports and start packing!

Canadian $$ At Par!

Acting swiftly to address a downturn in Canadian tourists, Myrtle Beach South Carolina has announced a plethora of deals for Canadians.

I can tell you that I was quickly and suitably impressed with their presentation and offers at VisitMyrtleBeach.com. Specifically, their Can Am Days event, and their ease of research. What a great site!

Following the links through to some of the Can Am Hotel deals, I easily searched dates and found prices around $50 a night. (There were no special promo codes or such needed.)  Prices are shown in US funds, but reflect the substantial discount to Canadians.

While it appears that hotels and restaurants aren’t able to receive payment in Canadian funds, their discounts do reflect a savings of 25% or greater, with presentation of Canadian identification, thus levelling the value to ‘par.’

The available promotion dates are now through the end of April, though some hotels are offering booking dates to May 18th, 2016.

Restaurants are in on it too. Here’s a sample coupon from House of Blues. Screen Shot 2016-02-05 at 1.05.32 AM

The international airport in Myrtle Beach is coded as MYR. Delta Airlines will fly you there for about $420 from Winnipeg (YWG), however both Westjet and Air Canada also fly into Myrtle Beach. Be advised, there are typically 2 connecting flights. Westjet advertises non-stop flights from Toronto, but frankly I can’t see them on my searches.

I love this initiative by the Myrtle Beach tourist board and I expect that numerous other cities will follow suit in the upcoming months. Props to them for taking this bold move and reaching out to Canadians.

If I was looking to pursue a spring trip, and especially a golf vacation, I would certainly consider Myrtle Beach.

That cake. Cake by the ocean.

I shouldn’t start in the middle of a story, but this time I can’t help myself. I’m still thinking about it. That cake. Ok, THIS cake….

Carrot cake with ooey-gooey cream cheese icing, from Caroline's cafe at the University of San Diego, at Scripps Pier.

I don’t know what to say, other than while others were eating salads, and some folks, fries, I opted to skip lunch altogether and indulge in this piece of carrot cake.

When I first saw it, it was under glass. Like a retro 50s style cake plate and glass topper. It looked so fresh and gooey it just got me. I didn’t even ask the price. I invoked the “I’m on vacation” clause and just did it.

We picked a table on the deck, which overlooked the ocean and Scripps Pier. Then we each ordered a glass of wine. I can’t think of a more carefree Monday afternoon. Just a couple of gals, kicking back in California. No agenda, no grocery lists, and no calories or cares.

And I can’t think of a better piece of cake, ever.

Best of 2015

The ultimate resource for the people by the people, Trip Advisor, has posted their comprehensive ‘Best of 2015‘ lists.

Curious as to the best all inclusive resorts? What about the best beaches? It’s all there! Defintely check it out.

One of my all time favourite beach holidays has earned the number two spot on the world’s best beaches list. Congratulations once again to the Turks and Caicos islands! We stayed at the Ocean Club Resort, located right on Grace Bay beaches. It was glorious!

If you’d like to go to the Turks and Caicos islands, both Westjet and Air Canada will take you there. A round trip flight from Winnipeg will cost about $550 at an average sale price.

Since the Turks and Caicos main tourist island of Providenciales is a developed island with services and standards similar to North America and Europe,  you will not see all-incluvice packages offered as the norm. Here, except for the Beaches Resort and Club Med which ARE all inclusive, you will pay as a european style vacation, sourcing your own food and beverages.

Did your favourite beach make it to the list? Where would you recommend? Please do tell us in the comments. Have a question about the Turks and Caicos… just ask! I’ll do my best to answer or find you resource that can.
